Find the legal issue, not just the emotion

Lesson 4 of 12 in AI Legal Research Foundations

The one idea

Legal research starts when emotion becomes a question. "This is unfair" is understandable, but it does not tell you what source to check.

Convert the situation into possible legal areas, missing facts, source types, and research questions. Example: "Can I sue?" becomes "What requirements must be met for a South African tenant to cancel a lease because of serious defects, and what notice or evidence is usually required?"

The better question does not decide the answer. It makes research possible.
