Letting AI answer from a document or source collection.
Token
A chunk of text the model reads or writes.
System prompt
Hidden or standing instructions for the AI.
Model
The engine behind the AI tool.
Agent
AI that can take multiple steps or use tools.
Automation
A repeatable workflow that runs with less manual effort.
Embeddings
A way to find meaning-similar text.
Vector database
A search system for meaning, not just keywords.
Multimodal AI
AI that works with text, images, audio, or files.
Evaluation (eval)
A test for whether an AI workflow is working.
Red teaming
Trying to find failures before real users do.
AI policy
Rules for what your team may and may not do with AI.
Precedent
A previous court decision that may guide or bind later cases.
Binding authority
A source a court must follow if it applies.
Persuasive authority
A source that may influence but does not necessarily bind.
Ratio decidendi
The legal reason for the court’s decision.
Obiter dictum
Comments not necessary for the decision.
Jurisdiction
The legal power of a court or body to hear a matter.
Cause of action
The legal basis for a claim.
Remedy
What you ask the court or body to do.
Interdict
A court order stopping or requiring action.
Review (legal)
A challenge to the lawfulness of a decision-making process.
Appeal
A challenge to a decision, usually based on legal or factual error.
Prescription
A time limit after which a claim may no longer be enforceable.
Gazette
Official publication for laws, regulations, notices, and appointments.
Commencement
The date a law or section starts operating.
