Never trust a case until you verify it

The one idea

AI may give you a case that looks real: a party name, year, citation, and court. That does not mean it exists.

Even if it exists, it may not support the point. It may be foreign, overturned, distinguishable, about different facts, or quoted falsely.

Use the verification ladder: find it in SAFLII, LawLibrary, a court site, or a trusted legal database; confirm citation, court, date, jurisdiction, paragraph, exact wording, holding, treatment, facts, weight, and caveat.
